From the starting point in the centre of Amsterdam, we take you in 20 minutes to Zaanse Schans, a heritage site consisting of mills, craftsmen's workshops and typical houses of the region. This area is known for its 17th- and 19th-century architecture. You can visit the historical workshops and see the creation of wooden clogs live. You will also have free time to discover the surrounding area before continuing on our trip to the polders.
After Zaanse Schans we visit Edam, the second destination of the day. This town, also known as the pearl of the Zuiderzee, seems to have crystallised in time. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the cheese trade and shipbuilding turned Edam into a flourishing trading centre, and these riches are still visible today in the form of stately buildings adorned with beautiful facades. After a stroll through the narrow streets of the old town and the beautiful canals, we take you to a cheese factory. Here you will learn how the famous Edam cheese is made, which of course you can taste!
The last destination on this tour is Volendam, a picturesque fishing village. Visitors from all over the world are enchanted by the colourful houses, boats moored in the harbour and its inhabitants dressed in traditional Dutch costume. During a short walk, our guides will show you the main points of interest in Volendam. Try the local fish, let yourself be immortalised in traditional costume and have a look at the cuisine in the museum of stroopwafel (caramel-filled waffles). After the visit to Volendam and a day of Dutch history, we will return to Amsterdam.
