Immerse yourself in the art of Michelangelo, the genius of the Renaissance, by discovering not only the famous David but also his most renowned works such as The Prisoners and St. Matthew and the Palestrina Pietà.
Michelangelo sculpted the David in three years, starting from a gigantic block of rough marble and carved an imposing sculpture of absolute beauty, the very icon of the Renaissance ideal.
He portrayed a magnificent naked young man at the height of his physical vigour, whose intense expression of strength and courage, derived from his absolute faith in God, became a symbol of the power and invincibility of the Florentine Republic at the moment of its greatest splendour.
