Continuing on the west side of Central Park, we encounter the Dakota Building, inhabited throughout its history by such illustrious tenants as Rudolf Nureev, Leonard Bernstein and John Lennon, who was assassinated in front of the building's entrance. We stop for a visit to Strawberry Fields in Central Park.
A little further on we meet the Natural History Museum. We go from the West to the East Side, cross the Park and head south along Fifth Avenue; we stop without going down to admire Frank Lloyd Wright's jewel, the Guggenheim Museum; we are in the area of the museums called "Museum Mile" and we will meet several of them (National Design, Metropolitan Museum, Frick Collection). We continue towards 42nd Street where we find the New York Public Library; stop in front of New York's first skyscraper, the Flatiron Building, and take a photo of the majestic Empire State Building behind us. We continue to Greenwich Village, home of artists and birthplace of the Beat Generation.
We cross Bleecker Street with its many restaurants and live music venues until we reach Little Italy; here we get off with our guide for a break, we are on the border between Little Italy and Chinatown. On board the bus we arrive at the Financial District and Wall Street, stop at Battery Park to admire the Bay with its bridges and islands including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island which houses the Immigration Museum. (If you wish, you can end the tour here and board the boats to the Statue). We continue to the new World Trade Center and end the tour where it began.
