The Hola BCN (Barcelona TravelCard) is automatically activated the first time it is used.

The card must be inserted into the special readers to open the access gates to the Metro and trains. On buses and trams, simply insert it into the machines provided.

Once activated it will be valid for the number of consecutive hours you have purchased.
For example: if you purchased a 72-hour card, and you use it for the first time on a Wednesday at 12 noon, the card will expire at 11.59 a.m. on Saturday.
